“sunmai, some mind and some of mine.”
Freely expressing a bit of the hidden self, a fragment of thought, coupled with a subtly released essence, at sunmai, it’s not just beer; it’s life.
Diverging from the typical dim and concealed atmosphere of bars, the use of materials and cultural elements is not for nostalgic purposes but to reinterpret innovation and fashion. The patterns of old iron windows, cobblestones, rammed earth walls, and embossed glass don’t represent Taiwan’s antiquity in the conventional sense. For the younger generation, these materials are a fresh and fashionable vocabulary.
We’ve opened up the entire visual space with expansive glass. During the day, the visually striking extension along the glass captures attention, while at night, the bar becomes the focal point. This softens the bar’s strong identity, adding a sense of familiarity. The glass and cobblestone bar extends to the iron window patterns in the middle, constructing a space personality with strong symmetry and symbolism. Well-defined point lights create a melodic visual experience, an atmosphere that’s elegant yet gentlemanly. In the daytime, it makes you feel like bringing a book to read; at night, you can showcase your elegant taste in fashion. The circular long bar acts as a control center for the bartenders, effortlessly managing the entire space. The partitioning by iron windows gives an independent feel to the enclosed seating area, creating a distinct atmosphere from the bar area to the rear booths. As night falls, stainless steel and reflective lights produce a sparkling effect, serving as an intangible guide for visual flow and movement. The stainless steel light frame, combined with wooden panel columns, creates a vocabulary that induces a sense of time and space transformation.
The clean lines of industrial iron elements against the traditional Maigu wall form a vivid cultural contrast. The texture of raw materials, paired with delicate edging and the handcrafted warmth of woven bamboo, signifies a new era of expression at sunmai, gathering culture, fashion, and life in unison.
