Starting from the central district of Taichung as a point of origin. With nearly a century-old building, the structure is meticulously reorganized, original material details are sought out, efforts are made to restore traditional construction methods. Alongside a reimagined vocabulary, the overall appearance retains the ambiance of time while presenting a novel bookstore facade. In harmony with the Art Deco era and the period of the building’s construction, we use simplified lines to reshape all window structures and styles. This design not only restores but introduces new configurations. Tracing the memories of an era is not just about reshaping the continuation of the bookstore’s past but imbuing it with fresh imagery.
Elegant aesthetics are not solely derived from the essence of architecture. The experience of reading encompasses a sense of the times, providing a simultaneous encounter with the spatial ambiance. The exposed, primitive construction methods of the preserved building are restored, relocating all air conditioning to the periphery of the space. Using visual elements, the lowered ceiling subtly reflects the original character of the space. The classical lines, wooden cabinets in earthy tones, and ornate wall lamps hint at a decorative style, suggesting the brand’s ambition for historical and cultural revival.
