How should an ancient Japanese building be renovated? We approach this venerable structure with great care.
Confronting the aged wooden framework, we contemplate how to simultaneously restore the structural beauty of the wood while infusing it with a contemporary aesthetic. Initially, we echo the inherent structural beauty of the wooden architecture by using the linear quality of lighting fixture pipes and wiring. Furthermore, we employ brass sheets along with the brown tones of ceiling wood panels and wooden beams to establish a chromatic connection, allowing the space’s colors to exhibit richer variations and a nuanced interplay between the old and the new within the same dominant color palette.
